BRAVO to Louis Nel (middle), who won the Piano category and was awarded the overall FIRST prize (gold medal) at the final round of the National Youth Music Competition on Saturday night!

For the final round, finalists performed concertos with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium. Louis performed the first movement from Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto no. 3.

We would also like to congratulate saxophonist Clara Lubbe (on the right) from our sister school St Mary’s DSG, who won the category for Wind Instrumentalists, as well as the overall third prize.

Louis is a private student of Mrs Claudine van Breda and Clara is a private student of Mrs Karin Groenewald.

The second prize went to pianist Qden Blaauw (left) from Durbanville.
