Hockey at St Alban’s has grown significantly year on year to the point that we now field 18 hockey teams: 6 senior teams and 4 teams in each of the age groups under 16, under 15 and under 14. Newly-appointed Director of Hockey, Krinesan Moodley, has had an immediate impact on the hockey club and he will bring with him a wealth of experience. Krinesan is the head coach of the Northerns men’s team as well as one of the PHL coaches. Krinesan has also been the assistant coach of the South African u21 hockey team.

The club boasts an excellent coaching team, as Mark Holliday the current 1st XI coach is a Provincial hockey player who plays striker for the Northerns men’s team. He is joined on the staff by 3 other Northerns men’s payers in Tim Guise-Brown, Matthew Guise-Brown and Richard Pautz. Both Matthew and Richard also play in the South African men’s hockey team. These fine coaches are joined by Chris Oldnall (former SA Schools hockey captain) and Martyn van Zyl (Northerns women’s coach). We also have a number of old boys and very competent student coaches coaching across the board with our many teams

St Alban’s has traditionally provided a number of players to the provincial age group teams, this trend continues and a number of boys each year represent the province at national tournaments.

St Alban’s College has a world class astro facility which was updated in 2011 season. The upgrade of this facility will not only benefit the school hockey progamme but will mean that the Old Boys’ Club will be based at the College.  The R2.5 million project will see a complete revamp of the surface, plus a new player dug out area, along with secure fencing around the entire playing area, and state of the art netting behind both goals.  This, along with the R650K spent on lighting the astro, will see St Alban’s College hockey and The Old Albanian Hockey Club embark on a new and exciting era. Our boys need to have the skills to play on water-based surfaces and with the lights going up as well, it means we could extend the late afternoon and get more boys onto the turf.
