HEADMASTER’S WELCOME

HEADMASTER’S WELCOME

Dear Parents, Staff, Boys and Guests

It is my pleasure to welcome the Headmaster, Mr David Knowles, staff, parents and boys of Clifton College to the St Alban’s Campus. We are excited to host the Clifton community for the first derby fixture between the two schools and look forward to interacting with you all.

George Leonard said: ‘Rivalry is the spice of sport but if you make spice the meal you’ll be sick.’ I sincerely hope that we will make camaraderie the main ingredient as we endeavour to compete against each other for the first time and we look forward to a longstanding relationship between the two schools in the years ahead. I would like to invite all our visitors to make themselves at home and we sincerely hope that you will enjoy the peaceful environment of our beautiful campus. Please take advantage of our hospitality, relax and enjoy yourselves and do not hesitate to ask our staff or boys should you have any queries or require any assistance. The Anton Murray Pavilion is there to be used at your convenience and drinks and snacks will be available for parents and staff after every game. I would encourage all parents to join us, particularly after the 1st XV rugby game on Saturday, for drinks and snacks in the Pavilion. Sport is a wonderful way for boys to learn and grow and I sincerely hope that everyone involved today will not only enjoy the interaction but learn from their experiences.

I also extend my sincere thanks to all the staff members, from both schools, who accompany and coach these young men, for giving them this wonderful opportunity and for supporting them.  I would particularly like to thank Krinesan Moodley, our Director of Sport, and his team for putting together the programme and for ensuring that everyone has a rewarding experience. It would also be remiss of me not to congratulate and thank Johnny Nkuna and our ground staff for ensuring that our facilities are in tip-top condition.

Lastly, to all the players - play hard but fair, enjoy the relationships you build and, most of all, remember that life is far greater than just a game of rugby or hockey! Live, learn and enjoy your experiences on the field and ensure you enjoy each other’s company when it is all said and done.

Yours sincerely

Shane Kidwell

HEADMASTER
